Emergency Plumber
Water running now, a geyser through a ceiling, sewage inside the house. We talk you to the stopcock first and get someone moving second.
Need a plumber in Ballito? We handle geysers, hidden leaks, blocked drains and burst pipes across the Dolphin Coast, and you get the figure before anyone starts. No money changes hands until somebody has actually told you what is wrong, and the bill that follows separates the parts from the labour from the attendance.
Tell us what the fault is doing and roughly where it is. A price comes back the same day, and a quote you decide against costs you nothing.
We work on the Dolphin Coast and we run a job in a deliberately unexciting order: turn up when we said we would, show you the fault, give you the figure, and only then pick up a tool. That order matters more than it sounds. Most of what goes wrong between a homeowner and a plumber happens because money changed hands before anybody had established what the job was.
The coast is covered from Salt Rock and Sheffield Beach in the north, through Ballito itself and the estates at Zimbali, inland to Umhlali, and up to Stanger. A great many of the houses here are not lived in all year, so we are set up to work with an agent or a caretaker, to photograph what we find before touching it, and to send the quote to an owner who is nowhere near KwaZulu-Natal.
Each one gets a page of its own, setting out the method and the money in plain terms instead of making you fill in a form to find out.
Water running now, a geyser through a ceiling, sewage inside the house. We talk you to the stopcock first and get someone moving second.
No hot water, a dripping overflow, a stained ceiling. Elements, thermostats and valves renewed, and the warranty date read before anyone mentions a new cylinder.
Replacement to SANS 10254 with the tray, the vacuum breakers and the drip tray drain done properly, and the certificate handed over unasked.
A bill that climbed with nothing changed indoors. Traced acoustically, marked to a point, and one spot opened instead of a garden.
Basins, toilets, gullies and the sewer connection itself, cleared mechanically rather than with something corrosive poured down a pipe.
A camera down the line to settle what is wrong and, more usefully, whose side of the boundary it sits on before anybody digs.
Weak showers and banging pipes, measured with a gauge first, because the cause is often a valve or a blocked aerator rather than the plumbing.
A pool dropping faster than evaporation explains. Shell, fittings and the buried circulation pipework tested separately.
Cookers, heaters and cylinder installations fitted by a registered installer. The certificate matters on one day only, and that day is the one after a fire.
Renovation plumbing, first fix and second fix, sequenced around the trades that have to come between them.
New points, re-pipes and reticulation, priced per point with what a point actually includes written down.
Guest houses, restaurants, body corporates and letting stock, scheduled around a season that does all its trade in six weeks.
Call-out, hourly rate and how parts are marked up, published on a page rather than quoted only once someone is standing in your kitchen.
Written here before you call, so they can be held against us afterwards.
No deposit is taken before somebody has said what the job is. If it is not a plumbing job, you are told that.
No drain left plugged over a weekend, no dye test abandoned for three days. A promised return date is a date.
Three separate lines rather than one total, and the failure written up in the language an assessor actually works in.
A geyser inside its warranty gets its date read before anyone quotes a new one. Sometimes the answer is that you owe nothing.
Ballito's water concession serves between 70 000 and 80 000 people on an ordinary day. Over the festive weeks that figure passes 200 000. The town's population trebles, and it does it in the same fortnight every year. That single fact explains more about plumbing on this coast than any amount of talk about pipe quality, and almost nobody selling plumbing here mentions it.
Think about what is actually happening in those weeks. A network sized around eighty thousand people is asked to serve more than double that. At the same moment, thousands of houses that have been shut since Easter are opened, filled with people, and used harder in three weeks than they were all year. Every one of those houses has been quietly accumulating faults in the dark: washers that perished in the heat, a geyser element furring up with nobody drawing hot water past it, a slow leak under a slab that nobody was there to hear.
None of those faults announce themselves in an empty house. They announce themselves on the second day of a full one. A cistern that has been seeping for four months only matters when six people are using the bathroom. An element that has been failing since winter only matters when the house wants hot water four times a day. So the faults do not arrive gradually across the year the way they would in a town where everyone lives at home. They arrive together, in the last week of December, in thousands of houses at once.
And that is precisely the fortnight when every plumber on this coast is already committed. The trade here is the same size in December as it is in June, because it has to survive June. So the arithmetic is unforgiving: peak demand for plumbing lands in the exact window when the least of it is available, and a job that would take a morning in October takes three days to even get booked.
Which makes the useful month October, not December. If a house on this coast stands empty for most of the year, the cheapest hour you will ever spend on it is someone going through it before the season rather than during it. Run every tap, fill and flush every toilet, check the geyser drip tray and the overflow, look under every basin. Most of what ruins a Ballito holiday is visible in advance to anyone who bothers to look in spring.
Worth an hour in October. All five are free and you can do them yourself.
The faults behind the calls this coast makes most, and what each one actually needs.

Hot water gone with a stain spreading on the ceiling below is more often the element and the overflow than the cylinder itself. The date stamp on the unit gets read first, because a geyser inside its warranty can mean the tank costs nothing.

A bill that climbed with nothing changed indoors, on a network that loses only 15 to 20 percent of what it pumps, points hard at the property rather than the pipe in the road. The meter test settles it in two minutes before anyone is paid to look.

Waste backing up across several fittings at once, starting the moment the power went, is usually the network rather than the house. Ballito's sewage is pumped, and a pump station without power stops moving anything uphill.

Search for a plumber here and the questions Google puts in front of you divide neatly into two: what will this cost, and how do I know who I am letting through the door. Both are answered below.
There is a call-out that covers getting a qualified plumber to your property and diagnosing the fault, and that figure is told to you on the phone rather than discovered on the invoice. Labour after that is charged by the hour. Ask any plumber whether their hourly rate is billed in full hours or in part hours, because a rate charged per hour 'or part thereof' turns a twenty minute washer change into a full hour on paper. Parts are listed separately at what they cost plus a stated margin. Our rates are on the plumbing prices page.
For work we can price from a description or a photograph, no. For anything that needs someone on site to establish what is actually wrong, the call-out applies, because that visit is diagnostic work rather than sales. What we will not do is take a deposit before anybody has said what the job is. If you describe a problem and it turns out to be a damp proofer's job, a roofing job or something the utility must attend to, we will tell you that on the phone and there will be nothing to pay.
Ask for the PIRB registration number and check it yourself at pirb.co.za. Registration has to be current on the day a certificate is issued, not merely at some point in the past, so a lapsed number makes the certificate worthless to your insurer exactly when you need it. This is advice against our own interest and we publish it anyway, because the top result when Ballito searches for a plumber is a community group thread full of mobile numbers with nothing attached to them.
Ballito itself and the Dolphin Coast around it: Salt Rock, Umhlali, Zimbali, Shaka's Head, Sheffield Beach, Chaka's Rock, Tinley Manor and up to Stanger. Ballito and Salt Rock are the short trips. Anything beyond that is still the same hourly rate, with travel stated up front if it applies rather than added quietly at the end.
Yes, and a good deal of the work on this coast is exactly that. We can meet a managing agent, a caretaker or a neighbour with a key, photograph what we find before touching it, send the quote to you wherever you are, and send photographs of the completed work afterwards. If you are letting the place out, tell us that when you book, because a bathroom out of action on a changeover day is a different problem from a bathroom out of action in June.
Shut every tap, check no toilet is filling, then watch your meter for two minutes. If it is still turning, water is leaving with nothing using it. That matters more in Ballito than in most South African towns, because the network here loses only 15 to 20 percent against a national average of 47, so the water is very unlikely to be disappearing before it reaches you. See leak detection.
Yes, for genuine emergencies: a burst you cannot stop, a geyser through a ceiling, sewage coming up inside the house. Evenings and weekends cost more to attend. You hear that number while still on the phone, not when the invoice lands. If it can safely wait until Monday we will say so and book you in, because an after-hours rate for a dripping tap helps nobody. See emergency plumbing.
Yes. Parts, labour and call-out are listed as separate lines, the fault is described in words an assessor will accept, and photographs of what was found are attached where they matter. A certificate of compliance is issued where the work requires one and handed over without being chased for it. An invoice that says only 'plumbing work' is the reason a lot of valid claims fail, and it is trivial to avoid.
